Beginner-friendly lace polka dot scarf knitting pattern — triangular bandana with ties and optional ruffle. 3 ways to wear. Step-by-step PDF with video lessons.
Create a delicate lace polka dot scarf with this beginner-friendly knitting pattern — a triangular bandana-scarf with ties, worked in one piece from tip to tip. Light, airy eyelet dots, a romantic optional ruffle, and three ways to wear it: as a scarf on the shoulders, a kerchief on the head, or a collar around the neck.
This is a digital PDF knitting pattern for a lace triangle scarf knitted in flat rows without a single yarn cut: you knit the first garter-stitch tie, grow the triangular body with a see-through polka dot eyelet motif, and finish with the second, mirror-image tie. The garter borders keep the edges lying flat and flexible, so there's no curling — and for an extra romantic look you can add the lace ruffle along the bottom edge (optional add-on fully explained in the pattern).
Every step is shown in text, photos and video lessons — all abbreviations and techniques (KFB, k2tog, k2tog tbl, yo) are explained, so it's a true beginner project. You will succeed!

MATERIALS:
-
For the orange scarf, I used Chinese Mink yarn (350 m/383 yds per 50 g/1.8 oz), held in 2 strands, in orange, color 879.
For the pink scarf, I used cone yarn Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia Cashwool 100% WV 2/48 (2,400 m ≈ 2,625 yds per 100 g / 3.5 oz), held with 6 strands together, color light pink.
As an alternative you can use any suitable yarn with similar footage and properties for the specified size. Go for yarn with a yardage of 175 m (≈191 yds) to 400 m (≈437 yds) per unit of weight. A light, well-drapping yarn works best: mink fluff yarn (Chinese mink-type), lightweight merino, alpaca, kid mohair, and other lightweight yarns.
One scarf without ruffle requires about 100 g (3.5 oz) of yarn.
One scarf with the ruffle requires approximately 150 g (5.3 oz) of yarn.
2. Circular knitting needles with a long cable (at least 60-80 cm). I used ChiaoGoo Red Lace Premium Stainless Steel circular needles, 24" (60 cm), US 6 (4 mm). Choose knitting needles from 3.5 mm to 4 mm (US sizes 4-6) based on the specified knitting gauge and your yarn.
3. Scissors, 2 knitting markers, thin needle for sewing, crochet hook (optional).
SKILLS: basic knit and purl stitches. Everything else is shown on photos and in video lessons. Difficulty: beginner/easy.
